The album features the Rajan and Sajan Mishra, exponents of the Benaras gharana. The first volume begins with the morning raga Lalit. This is one the few ragas which evokes a range of moods from shringar to bhakti. Through the vilambut and drut compositions, the illustrious brothers unveil a virtuosity and soaring imagination, which is often seen in their singing. The alnum concludes with raga Pooriya. The artistes have given a chaste rendering of the raga in the slow and medium tempo, austere in approach but suffused with feeling. The second volume features raga Multani, an afternoon raga, which is a derivative of the Todi scale. Their composition is a popular on describing the Radha-Krishna relationship. Raga Durga which follows, is dedicated to the Goddess Durga and is often sung by the artistes. The album concludes with raga Jaijaiwanti, a lovely night melody. The rendition has a lilting melody, resplendent in its ornamental beauty. |
